Hello and welcome to Carol A Smith .com
I am known throughout the profession as " Nurse Carol " and my first love has always been in patient comfort and pain relief.
I have been a Health Care Professional for almost 47 years, spending many of those years as a Ward Sister and also taking charge of hospitals. I have worked in over 40 hospitals both as a permanent member of staff or on an Agency basis wherever my skills have been needed.
It is not the big machines that do it for me, just the little touches like puffing up the pillows and straightening the sheet with a bit of friendly banter to maker the patient feel as much at home as possible.
I have seen life in all its glory and also in its sadness. I have delivered many babies, but no matter how many you deliver it is always a thrill to see a new soul come into this world, hearing its first cry and of course the happiness (and relief) on the parents faces when its delivered into their arms.
I feel it is such a privilege to be there when a patient is dying. To be able to make them as comfortable as possible and as much as possible to fulfil their final wishes and support the relatives. Sometimes even in this sad hour I feel that I am so lucky. How many people have a job where they can do that?
I lost my eldest daughter Georgie, when she was just 18. I even laid her out so I do feel I have much to offer to others in the way of empathy. I have brought up 10 children 5 of my own and 5 step children and what fun it is and believe me it is much easier with 10 than it ever is with one.
To sum up
I am a mature woman, but active and fit with my own teeth & whereas I draw the line at bungee jumping I have been known to do the odd sky dive. I am warm blooded, cold footed sentimental fully paid up member of the human race.
A Health care professional by character, sky diver by accident, workaholic by inclination, collector of single socks and not yet passed my “sell by” date.
Its been said that;
I am charming, delightful, talented, calm, full of bull, but whatever I always enjoy a Good laugh!
